The end of The Tour de Farce

The boys arrived safely in Chamonix on Friday 10th September after cycling 651 miles through all manner of weather conditions and health conditions.

This blog will continue to update, as the boys have further fundraising activities planned for September and October, including another cycling event (although considerably shorter than this one!).

The Tour De Farce (otherwise known as 'The Buns of Steel' tour)

In September 2010 George, Stewart, Adrian, Steve and Paul will embark on a 650 mile charity cycle ride to raise money for Marie Curie Cancer Care and the National Association for Colitis and Crohn's Disease. Their journey will start in Chorleywood on Friday 3rd and finish in Chamonix on Friday 10th. They hope to raise £5,000 for each of their charities. We are really keen to raise as much money as we can for our chosen charities.

Marie Curie cancer care is a charity that is particularly important to George. They supported him and his family after his father was diagnosed with cancer, and provided invaluable round the clock nursing care during the last few weeks of his life.

The National Association of Colitis and Crohn's Disease is a charity that Stewart is very keen to support. He was diagnosed with Crohn's Disease back in 2002 having been admitted to hospital for emergency surgery. Since then, with crucial advice and guidance offered by the NACC, Stewart has learned to live with Crohn's Disease.

Training so far...

The weekend of the 12th-13th June saw the first big training ride, with a 100 mile trip to Stewart's house in Cambridgeshire. With a head wind, George's poor balance and Paul's interesting choice of accessory it made for a great day. The boys made it in 10 hours, including stops. They were kept on track by their trusty support system (i.e. Kyle) who popped up with mars bars and water at each stop. The return journey, also into a head wind, went without a hitch. Sore legs all round.

Fund raising events

Wednesday 28th July will see the first of our fundraising events, with a walk from Amerhsam to Coleshill. Starting at the Chiltern District council offices at 5.30pm (7 mile route) or Tesco carpark in Old Amersham at 6 pm (5 miles route), and taking in some really beautiful scenery on the way, walkers will pay £7 to take part and will be rewarded with a buffet upon arrival at the Red Lion in Coleshill.

Our second event is a poker night. This is taking place at 6.30pm in The Harrow pub, Whitefriars (off Fleet St), on Thursday 12th August. With a £10 participation stake, free buffet and prize of £40 we are hoping it will be a popular event. If you are interested in taking part please contact us on the email address below.

The BIG PRIZE DRAW is coming along nicely and will take place mid-August. We've got some great prizes, many donated by local businesses in the Amersham area, including a test drive in an Aston Martin, a spa day at Champneys, a signed British Lions rugby shirt and £50 of vouchers for a local hair salon. Tickets will be available soon - keep your eye on our blog for details or contact us via our email address above.

We will be hitting the streets soon to try and raise even more money. On Friday 13th August we will be outside Tesco in Amersham collecting, and will be out on the happy streets of lovely Amersham on Saturday 14th August rattling our collecting tins. If you see us give us a wave (and put some money in our tins...).

Paul is in the process of organing a charity football event, that will take place before the end of August. And we are also in the process of organising a quiz night which will take place in Amersham towards the end of August. Watch this space for more details.
